There are things that you know intellectually that you don't really know in reality. Take, for example, the ordeal they like to call the two month check-up. This one is a major one with 6 different vaccines given in the form of three shots and one oral dosage. Now, everyone knows that this will be a difficult visit, but you don't know the reality of it until your child is the one screaming on the exam table. Let me tell you, it's heart-breakingly awful!! The only saving grace is the fact that Cora has decided that she might rather enjoy a pacifier now and then. With a little persuasion (i.e. holding it in her screaming little mouth until she clamped down on it), she accepted the comfort of the pacifier and some infant tylenol. (By the way, I appreciate the makers of infant tylenol for having the intelligence to add an appealing flavor to the medicine. In fact, I could choose from grape or cherry. Naturally I chose grape, but I digress!) Fortunately for me, Cora slept most of the morning and early afternoon. (Today was my first day of work at my new preschool job.) But, at about 4:00, the fussing began. Poor baby is really upset. I'm just waiting for that next dose of tylenol to kick in so Cora will feel better and my abused eardrums will get a rest!
Sidebar: Cora now weighs 9lbs, 4oz. That's a half a pound weight gain in 10 days! That means that by the end of the year, she should weigh about 42 pounds. . . ha ha! (Actually, I looked it up, and she is still in the 5th to 10th percentile as far as her size. What's a girl got to do to move up in the ranks?!?)
