This One's For You, Susy!

As I confessed in my last post, I have sadly neglected my friends who are having boys.  Believe me when I say I did honestly make an effort to find some cute boy fabric.  I bought some fabric with dogs on it thinking that it would be a little more manly, but after I studied it a while, it seemed that the poodles and lhasa apsos were a little girly.  (It did work out when it came to Cora's cute shirt, though.)  Sorry, friends, it's a sickness, really!

Fortunately for me, I also have several friends who are pregnant with girls.  And, the other day when I was searching the internet for a quick craft idea, I came across this onesie dress.  Let me tell you, this is the perfect sewing project that can be completed during Cora's nap time.  Usually, I try out new projects on Cora, but I have some baby showers coming up, so a couple of new babies will get to be the guinea pigs.  Here is the finished product.

Please allow me to pledge my undying love to elastic thread.  How did I not know that this miracle of gathering existed?!  You use the elastic thread to gather the skirt of the dress and also to sew the skirt to the onesie.  This allows for the skirt material to stretch just like the onesie does.  LOVE IT!

I had a little scraps of fabric left from the skirt material, so I thought I would also make a matching bib.  This was my first attempt at patchwork, and it is by no means perfect.  But, I thought it turned out pretty good.

I'm thinking my next one will be a Christmas themed dress for Cora.  What do y'all think?

Wow that came out gorgeous!! I have a couple nieces that this would make a perfect Christmas present for! Although, I know I could never finish it during my son's nap. I admire your skills with the needle. :)
