Things, They Are A-Changin'

I don't think Cora realizes how many changes are coming her way in the next few months.  I have a mental list that I'm checking off as we go.  We're taking these big changes pretty slow, but I believe that might be more for my benefit than for hers.  On Sunday, John was watching me struggle to get Cora out of her car seat when he dropped us off at the church door.  Little Carys has a way of impairing my movement, ha ha!  Up until this point, Cora was still rear facing in her car seat in the middle of the back seat.  So, very gently, he suggested that we may want to consider going ahead and turning the car seat around.  And, very reluctantly, I agreed.  John spent the better part of 30 minutes wrestling with that beast, but he got it very securely turned forward behind the driver's seat.  When we took Cora out for her first joyride with this new perspective, she was very uncertain about this new arrangement.  I put her in the car so she could climb into her seat, but all I heard was a chorus of "No! Nokay!"  Fortunately, after letting her play in the car for a few minutes, she climbed into the seat by herself.  It may or may not have had anything to do with John putting the dvd player in front of her seat and turning on 'Clues.'  The funniest thing was that as we started driving down the road, she started yelling "Wheeeeee!" and "Ready go fast?!"  So, I guess she likes it!  And, I'll admit, it was so much easier getting her in and out of the car for grocery shopping today. I guess we'll be hitting the potty training hard and heavy next.

I think they changed the rear-facing age requirement since my kids were little, we turned them around almost as soon as they turned 1! Glad Cora likes her new view :)

Glad to see the progress for Cora (and you!)

I was secretly a little worried a few posts back when I saw the picture you posted of Cora and a friend both buckled rear facing. In general, most recommendations are to turn them around sooner.

I try to NEVER push my opinions onto other moms. That's not why we blog. Therefore, I kept my mouth (via keyboard) shut about it when I saw the pictures.

Now I am doing a litle happy dance for you. :-)

Glad she is enjoying her new view.

I'm glad that Cora likes the change and that it is easier on you. Good luck with the potty training.

Thanks, OKAM! I am happy to take advice from more experienced moms. I appreciate your comments! We had talked with Cora's pedi about switching the chair around when she turned one, but Cora was still not big enough to really meet the requirements. (She only weighed about 17 pounds at that point, if I remember correctly. At almost 27 months, she's only 25 pounds - my little peanut!) The other thing our pedi pointed out was that 1 year is simply the earliest they recommend that you change the seat around. She had heard some rumblings that the AMA was considering changing the guidelines to an older age. She actually encouraged us to leave her rear-facing for as long as possible. But, I definitely do appreciate your comment - There is so much that I'm still learning!! : )
